Lately we have been getting asked a lot at the clinic if we work with children and the answer is yes we do!

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can be really effective to treat not just adults but kids too for a range of different things. As health care practitioners we have lots of different tools to use depending on who walks through the door and what they need.

These include

-Acupuncture needling

-Acupressure massage

-Gua Sha

-Cupping

-Moxibustion

-Ear seeds

-Diet and lifestyle advice

All these tools can be applied in some capacity to children depending on what there presentation is.

Needles do not need to be involved in every treatment but if they are, when doing acupuncture on children because they are so sensitive, those under 10 years old will only have it (one or 2 points each treatment) inserted and retained for 2-10 seconds which makes it easy to use on wiggly little bodies.

Gua Sha and Cupping is done with SUPER gentle pressure. Most kids find it quite relaxing but sometimes a bit ticklish.

-Ear seeds are used for children in the same manner as a adult would have them applied except we would use minimal points. The stickers are applied to the ear over different areas depending on what the treatment is trying to achieve. There is a tiny seed ( like a poppy seed) that is under the sticker and that applies light pressure to the acupressure point on the ear. These stay on over 2-5 days to gentle stimulate and reinforce the treatment.
