So where are you disrupted?

The Genius of EFT

EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique is an emotional version of acupuncture WITHOUT the needles.  It is a unique therapy used in sessions to enable you to think more clearly about your problem/situation.  In recent years however, there’s been a growing pool of undeniable research proving what millions of people around the world have known for some time now: that EFT produces real, lasting change and significantly improves or even eliminates symptoms that medication and years of psychotherapy often fail to adequately deal with.

Emotional Freedom Technique or “Tapping” as it’s more commonly known simply directs kinetic energy through blocked channels of the body (called meridians), thus clearing them and removing so called negative emotions or beliefs that no longer serve you.

Meridian Channels are a network of specific channels that circulate energy through your body.  You can tap into this energy at any point along this system.  Traditional Chinese Medicine works with 12 Meridian Channels and EFT uses the “end points” of these meridians to rebalance and clear the body’s energy system by tapping in a specific sequence whilst thinking about the problem.  The tapping simply directs kinetic energy through any blockages and therefore clears them removing so called negative emotions or beliefs that no longer serve you.

The good news is EFT is simple and easy to follow.  Many clients choose to use the technique as a take-home remedy to support themselves in-between sessions and have found it to be extremely beneficial for all types of issues including pain management.  The bonus of using EFT on physical issues is that the emotional aspect of the problem is often resolved – with results often lasting forever.

As all negative emotions are felt through a disruption of the body’s energy – physical pain and disease are more often than not connected to negative emotions. Physical symptoms that arise can then create a feedback loop with health symptoms creating and causing emotional distress and unresolved emotional problems manifest themselves through physical symptoms. Therefore, a person’s health requires a holistic approach – working with and relieving physical symptoms requires an emotional component and visa versa.

The basic EFT technique requires the client to focus on the problem: a fear/anxiety, a bad memory or anything that’s bothering you and feels unresolved.  While maintaining focus on this issue, we use your fingertips to tap 5-7 times on each of the 12 of the body’s meridian points. Tapping on these meridian points – while concentrating on accepting and resolving the negative emotion – will access your body’s energy, restoring it to a balanced and harmonious state.

Tapping is simple and painless. It can be learned by anyone. And you can apply it to yourself, whenever you want, wherever you are. It’s less expensive and less time consuming. It can be used with specific emotional intent towards your own unique life challenges and experiences. Most importantly, it gives you the power to heal yourself, putting control over your destiny back into your own hands.

As discussed, Tapping can be used for anything and everything!  Here is an example for anxiety.

This is how it works:

  • Identify the issue you want to focus on. It can be general, or it can be a specific situation or issue which creates anxiety within you
  • Consider the problem.  How do you feel about it right now? Now rate the intensity level of your anxiety, with zero being the lowest level of anxiety and ten being the highest.
  • Now compose your set up statement. Your set up statement acknowledges the problem and is then followed with an unconditional affirmation of yourself as a person.

“Even though I feel this anxiety, I deeply and completely love, accept and appreciate myself.”

“Even though I’m anxious about my interview, I deeply and completely accept myself.”

“Even though I’m feeling this anxiety about my finances, I deeply and completely accept myself and where I am at right now.”

“Even though I feel panicked when I think about ______, I wholly and completely accept myself as I am right now. ”

“Even though I’m having trouble breathing, I deeply and completely accept myself.”

“Even though I’m anxious about approaching my partner, I deeply and completely love myself anyway.”

  • Perform the set up.

With four fingers on one hand, tap the Karate Chop point on your other hand. The Karate Chop point is on the outer edge of the hand, on the opposite side from the thumb.

The set up statement is repeated aloud three times whilst simultaneously tapping the Karate Chop point.

Now get ready to begin your tapping sequence! Included here are some tips on how to achieve the right technique.

  • Use a firm pressure, as if you were drumming on a table. Use all four fingers, or just the first two (index and middle fingers).  Four fingers are generally used on the top of the head, the collarbone, under the arm… wider areas.
  • On sensitive areas, like around the eyes, you can use just two.
  • Tap with your fingertips, not your fingernails!
  • The order of the tapping sequence is to start at the top and work its way down.  You can end by returning to the top of the head – for a complete loop.

And now tap 5-7 times on each of the remaining 8 points in the sequence:

Head (TH)

The crown of the head. Tap with all four fingers using one hand or both.

Eyebrow (EB)

The inner edges of the eyebrows, closest to the bridge of the nose, using two fingers.

Side of eye (SE)

The hard area between the eye and the temple. Use two fingers.

Under eye (UE)

The hard area under the eye, that merges with the cheekbone. Use two fingers, in line beneath the pupil.

Under nose (UN)

The point centered between the bottom of the nose and the upper lip. Use two fingers.

Chin (CP)

This point is right beneath the previous one, and is centered between the bottom of the lower lip and the chin, in the “cleft” so to speak.

Collarbone (CB)

Tap just below the hard ridge of your collarbone with four fingers. Or use your whole hand if that feels more comfortable.  This point is also known as the gorilla thump.

Underarm (UA)

Underneath your arm about four inches beneath your armpit -using four fingers.

Head (TH)

And back where you started.  And you have completed the sequence!

Remember as you tap on each point, to repeat a simple reminder phrase, such as “my anxiety” or “my interview” or “my breathing.”

Take another deep breath!

  • Now that you’ve completed a round of tapping, focus on the issue again and gauge the intensity of the anxiety now. Give it a rating on the same number scale.
  • If your anxiety is still higher than “2”, you can do another round of tapping. Keep tapping until the anxiety is gone. You can change your set up statement to take into account your efforts to fix the problem, and your desire for continued progress. “Even though I have some remaining anxiety, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.” “Even though I’m still a quite worried about this conversation with my partner, I completely accept myself.”
  • And now because you’ve focused on dispelling your immediate anxiety, you can work on installing some positive feelings instead.

How is this different from “positive thinking”.

Tapping is a different approach to positive thinking because you’re not denying your feelings.  Instead you’ve confronted your feelings and given yourself the time to deal with the anxiety and stress giving yourself the gift of deep and complete acceptance to both your feelings and your SELF.  NOW, you are ready to turn your thoughts to the more powerful and positive and THAT’S what makes EFT so much more than the “positive thinking” techniques.

So join me today for a session or use these positive techniques at home and tune the very real energy of positivity, affirmation, and joy that is implicit inside you.
